I made her a SHOOTING STAR! 🌠
This project is inspired by Yoimiya's Story Quest Act II from Genshin Impact, the beginning footage is taken from in-game.
The execution of the project is by attaching #steelwool on a #drone .
Safety disclaimer:
- All combustion tests are done over bodies of water, water-filled bathtubs, concrete with no nearby vegetation, or stony shore
- Steel wool combustion could reach a temperature of 1400 degrees Celsius or even higher, please be very careful if you decide to replicate
- Night flight using a drone legally requires an FAA Part 107 license and an LAANC authorization

I'm guessing the structural issues are centred around the beams the propellors are attached to. You'd be putting an awful lot of vertical force through a horizontal structure, which could cause structural weakness leading to eventual failure. I'm not an engineer, but I'm thinking they might benefit from support beams attached midway along connected to the upper part of the frame (think the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle), and/or crossbeams connecting the two beams on either side (which would brace them against each other, i.e. front left connected to rear left; front right connected to rear right) and would also offer an additional beam to connect bracing points to the upper part of the frame. I guess you'd still need to be able to angle the propellors for steering, so any bracing would have to take that into account.

please make it remotely controllable first with a 70-80kg payload on board and test it before even thinking flying it yourself. as a mechanical engineer I can see so many weak points that you won't be able to solve unless you completely redesign it. good luck!

Hi Alan, You have a very cool project! I admire your tenacity and your dream! I am also developing a flying car of my own design, so I can really appreciate what you are doing. I wish you the very best in your project! I started my project in 2016 in San Diego, Calif and I am still working on it, but 3.5 years ago I found a business partner and moved the project to Fjugesta, Sweden. The project is called Sky Chaser. It is the 1st vehicle if its kind, a real roadable Blade Runner style VTOL flying car. It looks and drives like a car, uses its body as a wing and has no folding wings. It has no exposed rotors and is all electric. Sky Chaser looks and drives like a car, and flies both vertically like a drone and horizontally like a plane, in addition it is amphibian. Since it is an entirely new design for a flying car, I started by developing a working 1/6 scale model out of foam board and hot glue. Then I developed a CAD model that I got to fly in a flight simulator. Then I scaled the design to full scale and now have a unmanned working 200lb prototype we are now testing in VTOL mode with remote control. The tests show that it flies the same as in the flight simulator. Click on my icon the see videos of my tests and a presentation of the project. Awsome design, just curious though it looks like there was a lot of flex when you picked it up by the propellers. Do you have any plans to fix that or is it not a big deal?

Are these beams welded together? If not, then they all are a structural problem. Relying on a joint elements for strength looks suspicious, especially when made out of plastic

Hello Alan. My name's Bogdan and I study Aerospace Engineering in Leeds, UK. I believe your design could benefit from splitting the propellers up into instead of 4 holders or "wings" into for example 6, which would make it a dodeca-copter if I'm not mistaken. I believe supporting the load with 3 beams instead of 2, could add a lot to the structural integrity of the build. Another option to consider would be the way the rotors are arranged, so again instead of 4 points, with 2 at each, maybe 8 separate points would be better, but not sure. I'm saying this due to the way the rotors may pick up air in your design. I believe, at high speeds there could be a lot of turbulence between the 2 propellers on each hold. As obviously, I am not sure what kinds of simulations you ran into the structural testing and the airflow, FEA or CFD flows and whatnot, but overall looks very promising. Would be very curious to know how you based your design choices and considerations such as these. Cool project nonetheless, just some thinking fuel <3
